The new $32 million academic building on the Polk State College/University of South Florida Polytechnic campus was dedicated on Feb. 26, 2007 at 2 p.m. The event featured brief speeches by PCC President Dr. Eileen Holden, USF President Dr. Judy Genshaft and USF Vice President and Lakeland Campus Executive Officer Dr. Marshall Goodman. The Master of Ceremonies was Kristen Dailey, then President of USF Lakeland Student Government and a PCC graduate. Lakeland Mayor Ralph "Buddy" Fletcher and several other local dignitaries participated and attended the event.

The ultra-modern structure known as the Lakeland Technology Building (LTB) features a large state-of-the-art teaching auditorium, classrooms, computer and science labs, offices and ancillary student support facilities.

Like the rest of the Lakeland campus, the new facility is used by students, faculty and staff from both PCC and USF. Unlike the campus' other academic buildings, the new structure does not have a courtyard, but is a traditional solid core building featuring floor to ceiling windows. A key design element is the large interior hallway or atrium that extends up 2½ stories to the roof of the building and the extensive use of glass that fills the center of the building with light. The central hallway also divides the structure- with PCC classrooms and offices on one side and USF facilities on the other- making it easy for students to navigate.

The building has a total of 125,000 square feet (PCC space: 78,500 gross sq. ft; USF space: 46,500 gross sq. ft). The campus opened in 1988 and currently serves 15,000 credit and non-credit students annually.
