Spring registration open for Senior Scholars program

Spring classes for senior adults at the University of South Florida Polytechnic Rath Senior ConNEXTions and Education Center are now open for registration.

Classes begin the week of March 23 at USF Polytechnic, the Rath Center in Bartow, Florida Presbyterian Homes in Lakeland, Legacy Christian Church in Lakeland and Hawthorn Inn in Lakeland. Registration for most courses is $50. Some courses are offered at no charge. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required to participate.

Courses for the Spring 2009 session include:

  • Healthy Cooking
  • Computers: Getting to Know Them
  • Beginning Computers
  • Intermediate Computers
  • Managing Photos on the Computer
  • Life Writing
  • Maintain Your Brain
  • The Power of Positive Thinking
  • Acrylic Painting
  • Music With Friends

 

"All of our programs are created to enhance continued intellectual and personal growth," said Dr. Rosemarie S. Lamm, director of the USF Polytechnic Rath Senior ConNEXTions and Education Center.

The Senior Scholars Program gives seniors 50+ the opportunity to continue the lifelong learning process in a friendly classroom environment. Classes are held once a week for a six-week semester.  Class length is usually two hours, but adjustments can be made based on instructor needs. 

 

In addition to Senior Scholars classes, the Rath Center offers the following support groups to the community:

Alzheimer's Disease/Dementia Caregivers' Support Group. (Respite care offered.) Every Thursday, 10:15 a.m - Noon, USFP Rath Center, 1350 E. Main St., C200, Bartow, FL 33830.

Beginning Alzheimer's Support and Education (BASE). A nine-week early intervention program designed for those recently diagnosed with dementia and their care partners. Initial consultation required. Contact USFP Rath Center for meeting schedule and location.

Beyond BASE: Mild Cognitive Impairment/Early Dementia Support Group. Contact USFP Rath Center for meeting schedule and location.

Parkinson's Disease Support Group. Second Wednesday of each month, 1:00 p.m. Contact USFP Rath Center for meeting location.
