Dr. Jan Lloyd received her Ph.D. in Student Affairs Administration from the University of Georgia in 2006 and her M.A. and B.A. from the University of Central Florida in 1996 and 1990, respectively. She has over 15 years of professional experience in higher education specifically related to leadership development and student life.

She currently serves as the Dean of Students for USF Polytechnic and previously served as the Director of Student Life. She has oversight for student life on campus including student activities; volunteer programs, intramurals/recreation, student organizations as well as supervising the Career Center and Counseling Center. Dr. Lloyd also serves as the Student Conduct Officer for the campus by educating students regarding the Student Code of Conduct and the appropriate behavior that supports the welfare of the campus.

What I like most about the students at USF Polytechnic...
they care about improving not only their lives but the lives of others and Polk County.

I believe that student learn best by "doing" so I like to relate theories and concepts to practical assignments and activities. I am a proponent for experiential learning and problem based learning so that students have an opportunity to not only learn a concept but to understand how it is used in the "real world."

I understand and respect different learning styles and incorporate a variety of teaching methods into my courses. Engagement is a key aspect of my courses as I believe that students learn best from one another while my role is to facilitate the learning process. Subsequently, group work is generally a part of my class requirements because interpersonal and intrapersonal skills are important in any major and career.

Her research interests include leadership development of college students, including differences between gender and ethnicity as well as assessment and evaluation practices in student affairs.
